Why rent a giant model for a small job? Liquid AI announced LFM three today, a family of compact models designed to be specialized. The text model targets local agents and focused applications.
Liquid puts the four-bit text model at about one gigabyte. That is not the whole running application. Conversation history, working memory and software add overhead. Measure the complete setup on your hardware.
The new architecture combines short-range filters, attention to nearby text and attention across the sequence. Those are different ways to process information. The goal is a useful small engine you can adapt to a specific job.
Weights are available on Hugging Face, with hosted access through Liquid's Playground and API. But the text model's own card does not recommend it for agentic coding or complex reasoning across many steps.
It recommends retrieval or search for knowledge-heavy tasks. We have not independently tested the model. Watch whether a specialized version handles your actual workload, and count total memory and task errors before replacing a larger model.
