Faster output can still leave you waiting. OpenAI added Ultrafast mode for G P T six point one Sol yesterday, October eighth. It targets the gaps between generated tokens in the Responses API.

This is a service tier for an existing model. Select Sol and set the service tier to ultrafast. It is available to API users, with separate rate limits from Standard and Fast.

OpenAI recommends a persistent WebSocket connection, especially when an agent makes repeated tool calls. Otherwise, network overhead can eat into the gains. Faster generation does not remove the time your tools take.

The tradeoff is price. Ultrafast carries higher token rates. Sol supports global processing, plus U S and E U data residency. Check the current pricing table and your organization limits before increasing traffic.

For an interactive app, measure the whole task: when the first useful answer appears, how long tools take, and when the job finishes. Then compare the bill. Faster tokens are useful when they shorten the wait that people actually notice.
