Your agent can find a product. But how does a business know it’s allowed to act on your account? Meta and Sierra are proposing a common answer.
Personal Agent Protocol starts with discovering a business, then opening a session for you. That session uses OAuth and can continue across the website, an API, or the business’s agent.
A guest session could check stock or ask about returns. An account change needs access you authorize. You choose read-only or write access; the business sets what it permits.
It doesn’t replace every integration. The proposed design can use regular pages, APIs built on M C P or OpenAPI, or conversation with a company’s own agent.
Shopify, Stripe, and Walmart are among the partners. That is a development effort, not proof that every merchant already accepts your agent.
Sierra plans to publish the first specification later this month. For now, watch what actually ships: the permissions, the implementation, and which businesses support it. Payment extensions and more detailed action limits are ideas for later. The announcement doesn’t establish that those features are available today.
